Indian chat rooms, without the crowded room
Old-style chat rooms were a hundred people typing at once. StrangerYaar keeps what people loved about them, meeting someone new from anywhere in India, and makes it a calm one-to-one conversation.
What happened to Indian chat rooms
Many people remember the Yahoo and Rediff chat rooms: pick a city or a topic room and talk to whoever was there. Most of those rooms closed years ago, and the ones that are left tend to be full of spam, bots and people shouting over each other.
What people actually wanted from them was simple: a quick way to talk to someone new, from their own city or language, without giving away who they are.
How StrangerYaar is different from a chat room
Instead of joining a room, you're matched with one person at a time. You both get a random name and avatar, and you talk until one of you moves on.
- One-to-one: no flood of messages, no need to shout to be heard
- Matched by city, state, language and interests, the way you'd pick a room
- No sign-up and no phone number
- Report and block in one tap, with moderators reviewing every report
- Add friend to keep talking after the chat
City and language "rooms"
Choosing your city works like walking into a city room: we look for someone from Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata or wherever you are first, then your state, then all of India.
Languages work like a language room. Pick Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi or any of 20+ Indian languages, and you're matched with someone who speaks it.
Topic "rooms" with interests
Add a few interests, like cricket, Bollywood, anime, gaming, music or studies, and we look for someone who shares one. It's the closest thing to a topic room, except the other person actually wants to talk about it.
Keep the people you like
In a chat room, the good conversations disappeared when you closed the tab. Here, if you click with someone, tap Add friend. If they accept, you can keep chatting in the Friends tab, send voice notes and pick up where you left off.
