Why a stranger chat built for India

Most random chat sites treat India as one big crowd. You end up waiting for a match on the other side of the world, in a language you don't speak, at three in the afternoon their time. StrangerYaar starts from the other end: it looks for someone near you first.

Matching tries your city, then your state, then the whole of India, and only then the rest of the world. So someone in Pune is matched with Pune or the rest of Maharashtra first, and someone in Chennai with Tamil Nadu first, before the search widens.

Chat in Hindi, English or your own language

Pick up to three languages when you start, and StrangerYaar looks for someone who shares at least one. Hinglish works too: plenty of people type Hindi in English letters, and nobody minds.

Anonymous by default

You get a random name and a face avatar. Strangers never see your phone number, email, real name or exact location: only your city or state, and only if you choose one. Your gender stays private too.

There is no camera. You chat in text, with emoji, GIFs and voice notes if you want to send one, so you never have to show your face to talk to someone new.

When people are online

Stranger chat in India is busiest in the evening and late at night, roughly from 8 pm to 1 am IST, and on weekends. If you open the app at a quiet hour and nobody is free, tap Notify me and we'll let you know when someone is looking for a chat.

Safety rules that are actually enforced

Everyone confirms they are 18 or older and agrees to the community rules before chatting. You can report or block anyone in one tap, and you won't be matched with them again. Automatic filters catch abuse and spam, and moderators review every report.

• Don't send money or recharge codes, whatever the story
• Leave any chat that makes you uncomfortable: a new match is a tap away

Chatting is free. Premium, priced in rupees, adds faster matching, the option to match with girls or boys, more interests, voice calls with the stranger you're chatting with, and your own profile photo. You can pay with UPI.

StrangerYaar works in the browser on any phone or computer, and there is also an Android app on Google Play.
